I haven't heard anything about it, but I've never done a tri in a river, so I might check it out! Hey, I’m thinking about doing the St. Croix Sprint Tri too. Comment on Post First Triathlon Summary by Maria http://madtrippin.com/2008/07/19/post-first-triathlon-summary/#comment-56 Maria Sat, 19 Jul 2008 20:13:13 +0000 http://madtrippin.wordpress.com/?p=108#comment-56 Dang! Way to go, my man!! I cannot tell you how incredibly proud I am of your performance today. I was (admitedly) slightly surprised when you told me, 5 months ago, that you planned to start running on a regular basis. As long as I've known you, you've said that you don't run unless being chased. I was even more surprised when you shared the fact that you were considering the Chaska River City Days triathalon. Sadly, my immediate response was "Really?....Why?" After experiencing my first triathalon from a spectator's perspective, I think I kinda "get it" now. I had no idea what to expect as a cheerer/supporter. Honestly, I was expecting to feel intimidated by a herd of perfectly toned and athletic bodies. Instead, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide variety of participants taking part in the competition. I found myself feeling downright inspired by the strength and determination of each and every person who had the guts to show up and show their stuff. Emma, Noah and I had a good time getting to each transition in time to cheer you on. I was very excited - and felt so proud - to watch you fight your way through the course. I was even more excited for our kids to have the chance to see their daddy participate in his first triathalon. You've set a wonderful example for all three of us. :) Again, way to go! Dang! It sounds a lot different than the time gabe went to greece with the church group. didn't he just start jumping on busses as soon as the group got to the hotel for naptime? take care, Jake yeah! i think it’s about time you take some time away from the group to explore… it seems like nearly every second of your trip was pretty well planned out. I've lost cameras before on trips and it's so... violating. Maybe someday we'll start to remember to take a pic of our name and contact info as the FIRST PICTURE just in case an honest person finds the camera... Still haven't developed the pics from my trip to NYC, but soon, then you can have some idea of what we did. Does this trip just whet your appetite for travel in the future? Do you think you can make plans (in a number of years) to go back to Rome and re-discover all the places you have just touched on? Finally, one thing my Dad said was that when he went to the Vatican is that he got in line early, got in, and just RAN the whole way to the Sistine Chapel immediately (since the line was full of old-person-early-risers). He was the first one there and had it to himself for a whole 35 minutes... Sounds perfect. I'm excited for you to have these experiences, and I hope you'll be able to share them with us more when you get home. Talk to you soon, Jake fuckin people…
